Connect & Learn - Relational Working and the ‘Liberated Method’

This session is suitable for all staff and volunteers across the North East and North Cumbria health and care system. If you have any queries about your eligibility to attend, please get in touch.

The Connect and Learn sessions are a series of online learning events, planned with the purpose of sharing and spreading improvement work across the North East and North Cumbria health and care system.

Each with a different focus, the Connect and Learns are more than just information-sharing - they are an opportunity for you to connect with like-minded colleagues around a specific topic, to generate ideas, and take forward improvements in your own work, team, or service.

The format for each session is:

  • An introduction to the featured topic and why this is important
  • The presentation from our guest speaker
  • A facilitated discussion about what this means for our system

Join us for this Connect and Learn to hear from Mark Smith (Director, Public Service Reform, Gateshead Council & SRO, Changing Futures Northumbria) on 'Relational Working and the ‘Liberated Method’'.

Mark's presentation sets out how rebuilding services and support around what matters to people rather than services creates better outcomes and consumes fewer resources. To do this, we need to rethink roles, methods, leadership and governance as well as how money can and should move.

This work has culminated in ‘The Liberated Method’ and has been developed over the last 5 years in Gateshead and more recently across Northumbria. It has transformed the lives of people who the existing system and health, social care, housing and criminal justice has largely failed.

The presentation will show evidence and outcomes, but also sets out why something so simple is currently difficult to make normal. But there is hope and moves afoot to grow this across the region and beyond.

The session will take place via Microsoft Teams, and a link will be emailed to registered delegates a few days in advance. Please note this event will be recorded.

If you have any queries about this event or any special requirements, please contact get in touch.
