Having supportive conversations (Cohort 6)

This session is suitable for all staff and volunteers across the North East and North Cumbria health and care system. If you have any queries about your eligibility to attend, please get in touch.

This workshop will help team leaders to develop their knowledge and skills when supporting staff through any change. It will cover fundamental behaviours for having a person-centred conversation. This approach can be applied to areas such as wellbeing, personal and career development and problem solving. You will have access to tools and support materials that can be used as part of a conversational approach.

  • Understanding what a supportive conversation is and its purpose
  • The importance of an empathetic and enabling approach
  • How to establish trust and create a safe space
  • Deeper dive into active listening and techniques that support this
  • How to provide feedback and validation
  • How to handle emotional reactions

You will also have an opportunity to practice coaching as part of the session.  Please come prepared with a workplace situation or challenge that you feel would be beneficial to talk through.  This could be something that you are stuck with or not sure how to move forward with.

The session will take place via Microsoft Teams, and a link will be emailed to registered delegates a few days in advance.
