LUNCH & LEARN - Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder: Raising awareness

No prior booking is required for this event.

WHO IS IT FOR?

This session is suitable for all staff and volunteers across the North East and North Cumbria health and care system. If you have any queries about your eligibility to attend, please get in touch.

ABOUT THE SESSION

Boost, in collaboration with North Cumbria Knowledge and Library Service, are planning a series of Lunch and Learns. These are 30 minute, virtual, informal sessions that take place at lunchtime - while you take a break and eat, you can listen to our invited speaker give a short talk sharing their experience of improvement work. The session is then open to anyone who has questions or reflections to offer.

Join us for this Lunch and Learn to hear from Dr Helen Howlett (Senior Commissioner for Children, Young People and Maternity, North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board) on 'Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder: Raising awareness'.

This workshop will raise awareness around the associated harms of alcohol in pregnancy and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).

About our speaker...

I work in beautiful North Cumbria for NENC ICB as a Senior Commissioner for Children, Young People and Maternity.

I am a registered nurse and midwife with years of experience gained from working in the NHS and academia. My special interest in alcohol in pregnancy and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) was sparked back in 2013 when I attended FASD training and met a mother speaking candidly about the difficulties of bringing up her daughter with alcohol induced brain damaged. The predicament of these children and their parents has motivated my research.

I work closely with national and international FASD networks to raise awareness of FASD, facilitate diagnosis and service provision for this hidden disability. I deliver training to parents and professionals across the North of England. My PhD by publication is titled ‘Building a case for a standardised antenatal alcohol screening programme in the UK.’

The session will take place via Microsoft Teams, and will be recorded. Please click here to join this Lunch & Learn...
