LUNCH & LEARN - Health Literacy Awareness

No prior booking is required for this event.

This session is suitable for all staff and volunteers across the North East and North Cumbria health and care system. If you have any queries about your eligibility to attend, please get in touch.

Boost, in collaboration with North Cumbria Knowledge and Library Service, are planning a series of Lunch and Learns. These are 30 minute, virtual, informal sessions that take place at lunchtime - while you take a break and eat, you can listen to our invited speaker give a short talk sharing their experience of improvement work. The session is then open to anyone who has questions or reflections to offer.

Join us for this Lunch and Learn to hear from Leanne Kirkup and Tracey Garbarino (Health Literacy Trainers) on 'Health Literacy Awareness'.

This session will give participants an insight into what health literacy is, why it is a problem, and what we can do to help.

About our speakers...

Leanne Kirkup

Hi, my name is Leanne Kirkup and I’m one of the Health Literacy Trainers in the North East and North Cumbria ICB. My passion for helping others began when I started my career in Dentistry. Over 10 years I worked as a Dental Nurse and progressed to a Lead Nurse then a Regional Learning and Development Trainer for various roles within Dentistry, before joining the NHS as a Health Literacy Trainer.

I’m honoured to be collaborating with colleagues to share experience and knowledge on such an important topic and am committed to working to improve Health Literacy across our region.

Tracey Garbarino

Hi, my name is Tracey Garbarino. I have many years’ experience of working in libraries and as a literacy coordinator, from Carlisle, the Great Border City to Ho Chi Minh City. I am passionate about continuous learning, have a thirst for knowledge and believe in collaboration being the key to success. I have worked for the NHS for 4 years and becoming a Health Literacy Trainer has enabled me to share my experience and passions with others with the aim of making a difference across the region.

The session will take place via Microsoft Teams, and will be recorded. Please click here to join this Lunch & Learn...
